Apple has updated its TestFlight app with support for iPhone landscape mode, just weeks before its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, goes on sale.
TestFlight version 4.4.0 rolled out this week, IT House reported on September 26. Alongside landscape mode, the update also adapts the app to the resizable iPhone Mirroring window in macOS 27 Golden Gate. TestFlight is the app developers use to share test versions of their apps with users before they're released on the App Store.
What's New in TestFlight 4.4.0
According to Apple's release notes, the update requires iOS 16.0 or later. Here's what changes:
- In landscape mode, the app list switches from a single-column layout to a two-column layout to make better use of the wider screen
- On an app's details page, the "App" and "Developer" information panels now sit side by side, under the "Test Content", "Preview" and "App Description" sections
- The app now works with the resizable iPhone Mirroring window in macOS 27 Golden Gate, the feature that lets you see and control your iPhone from your Mac
It's a small update on its own. But the timing says a lot. A wider, two-column layout is exactly what an app needs to look good on a bigger foldable screen.
Getting Ready for the iPhone Duo
The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable phone. It's expected to start pre-orders on October 16 and officially go on sale on October 23.
The iPhone Duo comes with a 5.4-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch foldable inner screen. It starts at 15,999 yuan in China.
That 7.6-inch inner screen is much wider than any iPhone before it, so apps that only work in a tall, single-column layout would waste a lot of space. Updates like this one suggest Apple is preparing its own apps, and nudging developers, to make the most of the wider display.
What We Know So Far
In a nutshell, TestFlight 4.4.0 brings landscape mode and a two-column layout to the iPhone, and it lines up neatly with the iPhone Duo's arrival next month. Expect more Apple apps, and third-party apps, to get similar updates as the launch gets closer.
