Microsoft has launched two new Surface devices, the Surface Pro 12-inch (2nd Edition) and the Surface Laptop 13-inch (2nd Edition), both powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Plus chip. The company also unveiled a new Surface Mouse.
The announcement came as phone makers were busy showing off new flagship chips at Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit. Microsoft instead went with the Snapdragon X2 Plus, a chip Qualcomm released earlier this year.
Surface Pro 12-inch (2nd Edition)
The Surface Pro 12-inch is a compact Windows on ARM tablet, meaning it runs Windows on the same type of chip design used in phones, which helps with battery life. It has a 12-inch PixelSense LCD at 2,196 x 1,464 resolution in a 3:2 shape, with a 90Hz refresh rate.
It supports touch and the optional Surface Slim Pen, which detects 4,096 levels of pressure. Microsoft also introduced Ink Canvas, a new AI-powered, pen-first app for sketching, planning and designing. Instead of turning text into images like most AI tools, Ink Canvas does the opposite: it turns your sketches into text. Both the pen and the keyboard cover are sold separately.

- Chip: Snapdragon X2 Plus with a 6-core CPU and an 80 TOPS NPU, the part of the chip that handles AI tasks on the device, and no fan, so it runs silently
- Memory and storage: 16GB or 24GB of RAM, with 256GB or 512GB of storage
- Battery: up to 15.5 hours of video playback, or up to 11.5 hours of active web use
- Charging: up to 45W over USB-C, but the charger isn't included
- Ports: two USB-C (USB 3.2) ports, with support for two 4K monitors at 60Hz
- Cameras: 1080p front camera and 10MP rear camera
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4
- Size and weight: 7.8mm thick and 686g
- Colors: Platinum, Black and Violet
Microsoft says that compared to the previous Surface Pro 12-inch, which used the original Snapdragon X Plus, the new model delivers 17% faster Office performance, 18% more efficient battery use, 60% faster graphics and 95% faster on-device AI.
Surface Laptop 13-inch (2nd Edition)
The Surface Laptop 13-inch has an aluminum body, a color-matched keyboard and a new haptic trackpad, which uses vibrations to simulate clicks instead of a physical button.
Its 13-inch PixelSense touchscreen runs at 1,920 x 1,280 resolution in a 3:2 shape, with a 60Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of brightness. It also has a 1080p Surface Studio Camera and, like the Surface Pro, it uses the Snapdragon X2 Plus with no fan.

- Battery: up to 22.5 hours of video playback
- Charging: 45W USB-C charger included in the box
- Ports: two USB-C (USB 3.2), one USB-A (USB 3.2) and a 3.5mm headphone jack
- Size and weight: 17.5mm thick when closed and 1,225g
- Colors: Violet, Platinum and Black
New Surface Mouse
Microsoft also announced a new Surface Mouse with haptic feedback, so you feel a small vibration when something happens on screen, like a window snapping into place. It's designed for both left- and right-handed users, has a customizable button for Copilot, Microsoft's AI assistant, and uses Bluetooth 6.0 to connect to multiple devices.

- Surface Pro 12-inch (2nd Edition): starts at $1,150, with the 16GB/512GB model at $1,250 and the 24GB/512GB model at $1,450
- Surface Laptop 13-inch (2nd Edition): from $1,200 for 16GB/256GB up to $1,500 for 24GB/512GB
- Surface Mouse: $80, available in Black and Platinum in select markets from October 13
The Surface Pro 12-inch is listed on Microsoft.com. Microsoft hasn't announced Nigerian pricing yet.
