Three long-rumored Apple products have just leaked in images: a new Apple TV, the HomePod mini 2 and the 8th-generation iPad mini. The images were uncovered by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, and they come just ahead of what's shaping up to be a busy October for Apple.
Here's what the leak shows.
New Apple TV
The Apple TV 4K was last updated in October 2022, so this October would mark four years without a refresh. Based on the leaked image, the next Apple TV will keep the same design as the current model. The big changes are expected on the inside.
The new Apple TV is rumored to get:
- At least the A17 Pro chip
- At least 8GB of RAM
- Apple's N1 networking chip, with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread support for smart home devices
- A revised Siri Remote
That chip and memory upgrade matters because it would let the Apple TV support Apple Intelligence and the new AI-powered Siri for the first time, which is expected to be its headline feature.
The current Apple TV 4K comes in two models: Wi-Fi with 64GB, and Wi-Fi + Ethernet with 128GB. They launched at $129 and $149, but after Apple's price increases in June, they now start at $199 and $249. It's not yet clear whether the new models will keep those prices.
HomePod mini 2
Perris also found what appear to be the colors for the new smart speaker, which Apple refers to internally as the "HomePod mini 2". The leaked colors are:
- Green
- Pink
- Blue, a slightly lighter shade than the current one
- White
- Black
The current HomePod mini comes in yellow, orange, blue, white and midnight.
There are no new spec details in this leak, but the HomePod mini 2 is rumored to get a newer S-series chip and the N1 networking chip. Like the new Apple TV, the AI-powered Siri is expected to be its main selling point.
The original HomePod mini launched in October 2020, almost six years ago, at $99. After the recent price increases, it now starts at $129.
iPad mini 8
The iPad mini was last updated in October 2024, and it's overdue for both a spec and design refresh. The leaked images only show the front of the device, but they reveal a few key changes.
The biggest is a front camera moved to the landscape side. Apple first made this change on the 10th-generation iPad in 2022, then brought it to the iPad Air and iPad Pro. The iPad mini would be the last iPad to make the switch, which makes video calls feel much more natural when the tablet is held sideways or used with a keyboard.
There's also a small groove along the top of the display, similar to an iPhone, which is believed to be the new speaker. The next iPad mini is rumored to use a new speaker design that would make it water-resistant for the first time.
Apple's code also shows that the iPad mini 8 will use the A20 Pro chip, the same chip found in the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Duo. As with other iPads, it may be a slightly cut-down version of the chip.
Other rumored features for the iPad mini 8 include:
- A slightly larger OLED display
- The N1 networking chip
- Either the C1X or C2 modem on cellular models
What's Next
Apple hasn't officially announced any of these products yet. But with the leaked images and code pointing the same way, a new Apple TV, HomePod mini 2 and iPad mini 8 could arrive as early as October, alongside the iPhone Duo launch.
