Apple is reportedly preparing three new devices for the coming months: a redesigned MacBook with a touchscreen and OLED display, a new Apple TV 4K, and its long-rumored HomePad smart display.
After its September launches, Apple could have another busy season ahead, with more devices expected as early as October, according to reports from 9to5Mac and MacRumors.
A Touchscreen OLED MacBook
The biggest change could come to Apple's high-end laptops. Apple is said to be working on a redesigned MacBook that could either carry the MacBook Pro name or launch as a new "MacBook Ultra". If it's the MacBook Ultra, it's expected to sit above the current M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models rather than replace them.
The new laptop is reportedly getting:
- An OLED display, replacing the current mini-LED screen, for deeper blacks, higher contrast and better HDR in some situations
- Touchscreen support, working alongside the usual trackpad and mouse
- A thinner body
- A reinforced hinge to keep the screen steady when you tap on it
- A Dynamic Island-style cutout replacing the current notch
Touch support would be a major shift for Apple. The company has long kept touchscreens off the Mac, even though touch is central to the iPhone and iPad.
The name and timing are still unclear. Reports suggest the new MacBook could arrive between October and December, but a global memory chip shortage could affect Apple's plans.
New Apple TV 4K
Apple is also reportedly preparing a new Apple TV 4K. The current third-generation model came out in 2022, making it one of Apple's longest-running products without a hardware update.
The new model is expected to get a more powerful A19 or A19 Pro chip, along with support for Apple's AI-powered Siri features. The current Apple TV 4K launched at $129 in the US, but Apple has since raised its starting price to $199.
The HomePad Smart Display
The third device could be Apple's long-rumored smart display, often called the HomePad. It's expected to combine a speaker with a screen, and could run a new operating system that borrows from Apple's existing platforms.
Reports suggest the HomePad could include:
- Siri
- A camera
- Widgets
- Apple apps like Photos, Notes, Music and Calendar
- A StandBy-style display mode, similar to how an iPhone shows the time and widgets when charging on its side
What's Next
Apple hasn't officially confirmed any of these products or their launch dates, so it's best to take these details with a pinch of salt for now. Still, with the iPhone Duo arriving on October 23 and several other devices leaking, Apple's October is shaping up to be a busy one.
