Looking for a phone that could replace your camera? The vivo X500 Pro is one step closer to leaving China, after picking up certification in Thailand.
I’ve been a fan of vivo’s X series for a while now, and it’s become one of the best camera phone lineups around. In today’s post, we’ll be looking at the vivo X500 Pro to see what’s new and when you can get it. Here’s what we’ll cover: the certification, launch date, cameras, display, performance, battery, and price.
The Certification
The X500 Pro has picked up certification from Thailand’s NBTC (National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, the country’s telecom regulator). The listing shows the model number V2621 and confirms 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G support. The same model also showed up in Malaysia’s SIRIM database earlier in September.
Launch Date
Vivo has already confirmed a global launch in Europe on October 27, with sales starting November 5. Only the X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max are launching there, not the regular X500.
Cameras
Since it’s already on sale in China, we know what it packs. On the back, you get a 50MP Sony LYTIA main camera, a 64MP Zeiss periscope with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide. It also records 4K video at up to 240fps. In a nutshell, this one is built for photography.
Display
You get a 6.36-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with a 1.5K resolution. LTPO means the refresh rate can drop as low as 1Hz to save battery and go up to 144Hz when you’re scrolling or gaming. It also reaches up to 4,500 nits of brightness.
Performance
The X500 Pro is the first phone with the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro. It’s IP68 and IP69 rated, about 7.95mm thick, and weighs about 197g.
Battery Life
It packs a 6,510mAh battery with 90W wired and 40W wireless charging. That’s a big battery for a compact 6.36-inch phone.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Strong triple camera setup with a Zeiss periscope
- 4K video at 240fps
- Bright 144Hz LTPO screen
- 6,510mAh battery with 90W wired and 40W wireless charging
- IP68 and IP69 ratings
Cons
- European prices aren’t out yet
- The global version may differ from the China model
- Not sold officially in Nigeria
Price
In China, the X500 Pro starts at CNY 6,499 (about $910) for 12GB+256GB, which is around ₦1,260,000. European prices haven’t been announced yet.
Finally, is the vivo X500 Pro worth waiting for? Here’s my verdict.
If camera quality matters most to you, this is one of the most exciting phones coming before the end of the year. Of course, vivo Nigeria doesn’t sell the X series officially, so expect it here through importers, just like the X300 Pro, and at a higher price.
