Tired of turning your house upside down every time you misplace your car keys? Samsung’s new Galaxy SmartTag3 wants to fix that, and for the first time, it works with iPhone too.
I’ve been a fan of Bluetooth trackers for a while now, but Samsung’s SmartTags always had one big problem: they only worked with Galaxy phones. In today’s post, we’ll be looking at the Galaxy SmartTag3 to see if it’s finally the tracker for everyone. Here’s what we’ll cover: design, battery life, finding features, iPhone support, and price.

Design
The SmartTag3 is about 35% smaller and 33% lighter than the SmartTag2. It fits easily on your keys, bag, luggage or even your pet’s collar. It’s also IP67 rated, which means it can survive dust and a short dip in water.
Battery Life
This is one of the SmartTag3’s best features. It uses a replaceable CR2032 coin battery, the same type you’ll find in a car key remote. Samsung says it lasts up to 550 days in normal use and up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode. That’s more than two years before you need to swap the battery.
Finding Features
You get Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding and UWB (Ultra-Wideband), a technology that measures distance very precisely. With Compass View, Samsung says you get distance and direction from up to 60 meters away, about three times farther than the previous generation. This feature works on phones like the Galaxy S26 Ultra, S26+, Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra.
Other features include:
- Place Notification, which alerts you when a tagged item or pet leaves an area you set
- 7 days of location history
- Movement Detection Alert
- NFC Lost Mode, so whoever finds it can tap it with their phone to see your contact details
iPhone Support
On iPhone, you’ll use the SmartThings app to check and share the tag’s location and to search nearby. On the other hand, Compass View, Ring Phone and Left Behind Alert don’t work on iOS. So if you use an iPhone, Apple’s AirTag still gives you more features.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Now works with iPhone as well as Galaxy phones
- Smaller and lighter than the SmartTag2
- Replaceable battery that lasts up to 790 days
- Longer finding range with Compass View
- IP67 dust and water resistance
Cons
- Compass View, Ring Phone and Left Behind Alert don’t work on iPhone
- Compass View only works on newer Galaxy phones
- No price announced yet
Price
Samsung hasn’t announced a price yet. The SmartTag3 comes in White and Black and goes on sale in Korea from October 7, followed by the US, with more markets in 2027.
Finally, should you wait for the Galaxy SmartTag3? Here’s my verdict.
If you use a Galaxy phone, yes. It’s smaller, lasts longer, and finds things from farther away. If you’re on iPhone, it works, but AirTag still does more for you. Either way, it’s great for Nigerian homes where some people use Android and others use iPhone.
