Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy A08, its newest entry-level smartphone, bringing Galaxy AI features, a 6,000mAh battery and six years of software updates to budget buyers around the world.
The phone is rolling out in select regions, including Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America, with a starting price of roughly $239 depending on the region and local taxes.
Galaxy AI Comes to Samsung's Cheapest Phones
The big story with the Galaxy A08 is AI. Samsung is bringing features that were once reserved for its mid-range and flagship phones down to its entry-level lineup. The phone runs Android 16 with Samsung's One UI 8, and it comes with:
- Circle to Search with Google: circle, highlight or tap anything on your screen, like clothing, a landmark or text, to search for it without leaving the app you're in. The A08 also adds Find the Look, which searches for a whole outfit from a single image, plus music identification
- Support for multiple AI assistants: you can call up Google Gemini or Perplexity with a voice command or a long press to carry out multi-step tasks across Samsung and third-party apps
- Smart media processing: AI manages background memory and helps the camera take clearer photos in low light
"With the Galaxy A08, we are ensuring that the transformative potential of mobile AI isn't limited to flagship buyers," Samsung said at the launch. "We are bringing essential smart tools, power management, and high-level security to everyday users."

Under the hood, the Galaxy A08 runs on the MediaTek Helio G99+, an octa-core chip built on a 6nm process. It's designed to handle social media, streaming and light gaming without draining the battery too fast.

- Display: 6.7-inch HD+ (720 x 1600) LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate
- Processor: MediaTek Helio G99+ (6nm, octa-core)
- Memory and storage: 4GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of storage, expandable up to 2TB with a microSD card
- Rear cameras: 50MP main (f/1.8) and 2MP depth
- Front camera: 8MP
- Battery and charging: 6,000mAh with 25W wired charging
- Durability: IP64 dust and splash resistance
- Colors: Navy Blue, Silver and Green
Samsung has also moved to LPDDR5 RAM, a faster and more power-efficient type of memory than previous models used. There's a RAM Plus option too, which lets you turn unused storage into extra virtual RAM, or switch it off to save space for photos and videos.
Bigger Battery, Tougher Build
The headline hardware upgrade is the battery. At 6,000mAh, it's 20% bigger than the 5,000mAh battery in the previous model, and Samsung says it can last up to two full days of typical use on a single charge. With 25W charging, you can top up quickly when you need to, and with NEPA being NEPA, that's good news for Nigerian buyers.
The Galaxy A08 is also rated IP64, which means it's protected against dust, rain and accidental splashes. For security, it comes with Samsung Knox Vault, which stores sensitive data like passwords, PINs, fingerprints and encryption keys in a separate, tamper-resistant part of the hardware.
Six Years of Updates
This might be the most important part of the announcement. Budget phones usually get two to three years of updates. Samsung is promising the Galaxy A08 six generations of Android upgrades and six years of security patches, which means support through 2032.
For buyers who keep their phones for years, that's a big deal. It means banking apps, WhatsApp and other apps should keep working safely on the Galaxy A08 long after most budget phones have stopped getting updates.
Price and Availability
The Galaxy A08 starts at roughly $239, depending on the region and taxes. It's rolling out now in select markets across Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America, in Navy Blue, Silver and Green.
