Xiaomi has confirmed that the Redmi 17C 5G launches in India on October 1, and this one is aimed squarely at people who want a cheap 5G phone that still ticks the important boxes.
You get a big 6.9-inch HD+ LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 810 nits of brightness. It runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, with 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage.
The battery is 6,000mAh with 33W charging, which should comfortably get you through a full day and then some.
On the back, there’s a 50MP f/1.8 main camera, and there’s an 8MP selfie camera on the front.
Now, the extras are what make this one interesting at this price:
- IP64 dust and water resistance
- Wet Touch 2.0, so the screen still works with wet hands
- A 3.5mm headphone jack
- NFC
- A side-mounted fingerprint scanner
- HyperOS 3 on Android 16
It weighs 211g and comes in Dark Night, Coffee Brew and Purple Dawn.
The Redmi 17C 5G is expected to cost under Rs 20,000 in India, and it already sells for SGD 279 in Singapore.
What about Nigeria? There’s no Nigerian launch date yet. The Redmi C series usually does well here because of its price, so we won’t be surprised to see it land soon. Either way, we’ll update our prices page once it’s available.
