Huawei is getting ready to launch its Mate 90 series of flagship phones, and to be honest, the leaks have been coming thick and fast as the launch gets closer.
Huawei has confirmed a few things. At its developer conference in June, the company said the Mate 90 series would launch this fall with the stable version of HarmonyOS 7, its own operating system. Earlier, in May, Huawei executive He Tingbo said the Kirin chips launching in fall 2026 would be the first to use a new “LogicFolding” design, which is meant to improve performance.
Huawei has not announced an exact date. Reports from China point to September 29, while others suggest October 1. A separate Huawei event on September 28 is not expected to be for the phones.
Most other details come from leaks. According to tipsters, the chip will be called the Kirin 9050, and the top models may use a faster Kirin 9050 Pro. Here is what the leaks say so far:
- Models: Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design
- Chip: Kirin 9050 series (not yet officially named)
- Software: HarmonyOS 7 (confirmed by Huawei)
- Pro Max main camera: 50MP with variable aperture, meaning the lens opening can change to let in more or less light
- Pro Max telephoto: reportedly a 200MP periscope zoom camera
- Battery: about 6,800mAh to 7,000mAh on the Pro models, with 100W wired charging
Leakers also say the Mate 90 Pro Max will have a third-generation multispectral sensor, a small sensor that helps the phone capture more accurate colors. The most unusual rumor is a Collector’s Edition of the Pro Max that would support a clip-on external lens with a 1-inch sensor and 10x optical zoom.
Please note that Huawei hasn’t confirmed any of these camera or battery details, and pricing is also unknown.
Either way, like earlier Mate phones, the series is expected to launch in China first. Huawei hasn’t said anything yet about international availability, including Nigeria.
