Is the new iPhone 18 Pro really worth the extra cash, or is the iPhone 17 Pro still the smarter buy? With the iPhone 18 Pro now out, that's the question on everyone's lips, and the answer comes down to one thing: price.
I've been following Apple's Pro lineup for years, and this year's price jump caught my attention more than any new feature. In today's comparison, we'll be looking at the iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro price to see which one gives you more for your money right now. iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro Price in the US
First off, the official US prices. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 17 Pro launched at $1,099. That's a straight $100 more, and both phones start with 256GB of storage, so it's a fair like-for-like comparison.

The bigger shock is at the top. The 1TB model jumps by $300, and there's a brand-new 2TB option at $2,399. If you shoot a lot of 4K video, that 2TB is tempting, but it also costs more than two iPhone 17 Pros did at launch.
If you'd rather pay monthly, Apple lists the iPhone 18 Pro at $49.95 a month for 24 months. In the UK, prices went up the same way, from £1,099 to £1,199.
iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro Price in Nigeria
This is where it gets interesting. Nigeria isn't one of Apple's first-wave launch countries, so there's no official Apple Nigeria price. Here's what brand-new units are going for locally right now:

- iPhone 18 Pro 256GB: ₦2,050,000

In the US, the gap is $100. Here, it's ₦350,000 on the 256GB model and ₦450,000 on the 512GB. Two things are happening at once. The iPhone 17 Pro has come down in price now that it's a year old, and the iPhone 18 Pro is carrying import, shipping and early-buyer costs.
To be honest, I expect those iPhone 18 Pro prices to ease a bit over the next few weeks once more stock lands in Lagos and Abuja. Either way, if you buy one today, you're paying the "first to have it" tax.
What Does the Extra Money Get You?
That aside, a higher price only makes sense if the phone is actually better. So what changes between the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro?
You get the new A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process. In simple terms, a smaller process means the chip can be faster while using less power. Apple says it's up to 20% faster on the CPU and up to 40% faster on graphics than the A19 Pro in the iPhone 17 Pro. For gaming, that graphics jump is the part you'll notice.
The standout upgrade is the camera. The 48MP main camera now has a variable aperture that runs from f/1.48 to f/4. The aperture is the opening that lets light into the camera. At f/1.48, it opens wide for night shots at a Lagos party. At f/4, it closes down to keep a whole group of friends sharp in one photo. You also get new manual controls for aperture and shutter speed, which content creators will love.
Charging is faster too. The iPhone 18 Pro gets to 50% in about 15 minutes with a 60W charger, compared to about 20 minutes on the iPhone 17 Pro. Video playback also goes up from 33 hours to 36 hours, and Apple's new C2 modem replaces the C1X for better network performance.
On the other hand, the display is the same 6.3-inch, 3,000-nit panel. Day to day, scrolling Instagram and watching YouTube will feel much the same on both phones. In a nutshell, the upgrades are real, but they're mostly for camera lovers and heavy gamers.
iPhone 17 Pro Max vs iPhone 18 Pro Max Price
The Pro Max follows the same pattern. In the US, the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299, up from $1,199 for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Monthly, it's $54.12 over 24 months.
In Nigeria, the gap is even bigger:
- iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB: ₦1,850,000
- iPhone 17 Pro Max 512GB: ₦2,200,000
- iPhone 18 Pro Max 256GB: ₦2,650,000
- iPhone 18 Pro Max 512GB: ₦2,700,000
That's a whopping ₦800,000 difference on the 256GB model. Interestingly, the 18 Pro Max 512GB is just ₦50,000 more than the 256GB, so if you're going for the 18 Pro Max, the 512GB is the better deal.
The Pro Max is also where the battery story gets good. Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro Max at up to 30 hours of typical use, the longest of any iPhone yet. One thing to note: US Pro Max units use a Qualcomm Snapdragon X80 modem, while most other models get Apple's C2.

If you're on an iPhone 15 Pro or older and you shoot a lot of photos and video, the iPhone 18 Pro is a solid jump, and that camera is the reason to get it. But if you're buying in naira and value matters most, the iPhone 17 Pro at ₦1,700,000 is the smart buy right now. You get almost the same everyday experience for ₦350,000 less.
